Our Review:

BigMuscle.com is a niche gay dating site from the team who bring you BigMuscleBears.com. The difference is that this site is more geared towards those who want to hook up with large gay guys but without the fuzz. It's similar in appearance to BigMuscleBears.com and the format is almost the same, with a straightforward feel and not too many superfluous features.

You need to be 21 years old to register. Signing up is free and all you require is a valid email address. At first glance it doesn't appear to be a very busy site. With 13,597 members at the time of this review, the membership base is slightly smaller than its hairy counterpart. There were 260 online, which is a little disappointing. Again, members are mostly from the US and big, muscly and mean-looking. It's possible to join as a member (in which case you have to have big muscles), or an admirer, in which case rather than creating a profile featuring your weedy little self amongst the man-mountains, you just get to browse profiles and contact members. There's a definite bias towards the hookup end of the relationship spectrum, though bear in mind that a fling with one of these guys may be too much for the faint-hearted. You'll see plenty of guys with their rippling torsos, but nothing too extreme.

If unused, profiles automatically become inactive after 6 months, maybe due to an extended gym session. You can search profiles using the simple (keyword) search or an advanced search which allows you to preselect a range of criteria, with an emphasis on physicality and hairiness. Slightly annoyingly, to select criteria you have to use a system of drop-down menus, which can be cumbersome. You can also specify age, location, whether they have IM, whether they have video on their profile and their last login, which is good to know. Connecting with other members comprises email (personal email rather than an internal email system), IM and live video chat. The chat rooms weren't especially busy at the time of this review. You can also check out the bulletin board for member updates and create a favorites list by clicking the 'I like' button when browsing a profile. 

Free members get a fair deal, with free browsing and email privileges, in addition to creating a profile, searching and using other features on the site, such as Robbie's advice column and the health and lifestyle info pages. Supporters get featured ahead of standard members in listings and appear at the head of listings when they update their profile, amongst other profile enhancements. If you like the site then it's well worth pledging a donation (of your choice) to become a supporter and to ensure that the site keeps going. Finally, whilst the FAQs section isn't much help, all emails are replied to, eventually.

BigMuscle.com is a nice little site for those who just want to meet big defuzzed gay guys, so it serves a valuable purpose in the world of niche gay dating sites, as does its partner, BigMuscleBears.com. However, whilst it suffers from the same lack of members in comparison to other gay dating sites, as a niche site catering for lovers of a specific type of gay man, it delivers the goods.
