Our Review:

RealJock.com is a niche gay dating and community site. The great thing is that it's absolutely free to join, with no hidden costs. However, it doesn't have as many useful features as other subscription sites in this category, plus it has a slightly cluttered feel that makes it sometimes tricky to navigate easily. Read on for more details.

RealJock.com doesn't have the largest membership base in this category. At the time of this review there were 296,147 profiles, 8627 of which were verified. This means that over 8000 members on the site are serious, committed users who have taken the time and trouble to authenticate their profile and pictures, so you know it's them. There were also 1364 online, which isn't a huge number. This is largely to do with the fact that the site focuses on guys who pretty much live at the gym, which obviously rules out most people. If you like buff, muscular guys you'll find them in abundance here, as long as you're that way too. Whilst some jocks might like pale, stick-like guys, you probably won't fit in here if you're a couch potato. Because of the small membership base, you're more likely to hook up online than in real life, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

Whilst free sites are an attraction, they also have their drawbacks. Being free, you'll find plenty of obsolete profiles and RealJock.com is no exception. Unless a profile has been verified you can't be absolutely sure of what you're getting. If you want to be taken seriously, ensure that you authenticate your profile, instructions for which are given on the site. If you do sign up it won't take more than a couple of minutes. You'll need a valid email address, and at least one photo for your profile. You can post a number of public photos that all members can see, plus private photos that have to be unlocked in order for another member to view. Public photos tend to be of muscular torsos. Whilst you're warned not to upload anything too extreme even for private photos, expect plenty of nudity. Profile pictures are generally a lot more tame here than on some other sites. The profiles themselves are quite detailed and focus on physical prowess and musculature, as well as which gyms members use. You also get all the usual stuff to do with what they're like and who they'd like to meet. In addition to looking out for verified profiles, the profile displays when a member was last on the site, which lets you know whether they're still around or not. Look out for testimonials too, but there aren't too many profiles with these.

There are three basic search options to find members. Simple search is a keyword search, whilst full search allows you to stipulate a range of criteria including age range, location and member name. You can also filter results so you're left just with members currently online, new profiles, members with photos, recently updated profiles, verified members and 'hottest jocks'. Advanced search allows you to go even further and specify a range of physical characteristics and filter them with the above criteria. When you find a profile you like, you can contact them by email, or request IM chat, which allows you to connect and chat in real time. There are also additional ways to connect; e.g. by adding a member to your hotlist (profiles you like the look of) or buddy list (guys with similar interests), add a testimonial to his profile or even comment on his profile pictures. There are also chat rooms, but these were fairly quiet (68 online at the time of this review) and chat was limited to exercise and workouts. As mentioned, all of this is free when you sign up. Other features include a gay topic blog (featuring workout plans, nutritional advice, sex and relationships, HIV, entertainment and news), forums (with similar topics) and workout plans to turn you into Charles Atlas within a fortnight. Nobody will kick sand in your face again. In terms of value, as it's all free then it's great value. If you have any problems, there's an email form. Don't expect too much from the help section, as it's a little brief with limited cover.

RealJock.com can't be knocked because it's free. If you're looking for a jock, be selective and take advantage of the unrestricted features on offer here.
