Our Review:

Gay-Datanta.com isn't the most inspiring looking site at first glance, appearing a little bland in comparison to others. It features guys from all over the world, so if you're suffering from wanderlust should you check it out?

It's free to register with Gay-Datanta.com, though you'll need a valid email address to complete the registration process. The site has a truly global reach; you'll find around 90,000 members in total and 2,632 members in the US at the time of this review. This is a pretty low figure, and it's more likely that you'll have more interesting and exotic multicultural adventures online than when meeting members in real life; less than a few thousand members across the whole of the US is pretty sparse. However, with 90,143 online, this is a healthy figure, so if you fancy chatting to gay guys from Kazakhstan, Papua New Guinea and the Comoros Islands, you'll find them here.

The profiles can be a little disappointing at times, being often incomplete and strikingly similar to each other. Sometimes, users' grasp of English isn't so good. One earnest-looking Malaysian man claimed, on his profile heading, to be 'looking for boy', which immediately ruled us out. Meanwhile, a Nigerian member stated on this profile 'I want a gay that will be my wife and take good care of me'. Being somewhat undomesticated and keen to wear the trousers in a relationship, we moved swiftly on, shuddering at the thought of a lifetime of hard labor in a Lagos back street. Therefore, our advice would be not to take things further than online hi-jinks, unless you're absolutely sure. Bizarrely, even the members claiming to be from English speaking countries sometimes struggle with the language. Probably best to avoid them and look out for user-verified profiles. 

You'll find a few search options available to you. Basic search lets you search for 'gays' or 'boys' though it isn't made clear what the distinction is (and we didn't want to know). You can preselect age range, location and specify profiles with pictures only. There's also a keyword search. The advanced search only allows you to search on the basis of what a member is looking for (friendship, relationship, dating). There are also preconfigured searches that bring up top rated guys and top rated boys (?).  You can connect by email and MSN Messenger or Yahoo Messenger if you have one installed. The chat rooms were derelict; one room with 17 people, nearly all of whom were unregistered. 

Gay-Datanta.com is a truly bizarre site that languishes in the backwaters of the online gay dating scene. Truly, one would have to be an intrepid explorer to set foot here, and even the lure of free membership shouldn't be enough to tempt you into this murky swamp.
