Our Review:

GayDate.com is a friendly-looking and easy to navigate gay dating site for males and females. If you're looking to meet people for no-strings fun then it's probably not the site for you. However, if you're looking for a stable and lasting relationship then come on in.

It's free to sign up to Gay.Date.com, though you will need a valid email address. Whilst you'll find thousands of profiles to browse, the site doesn't feel especially busy with activity. At the time of this review there were 3,981 new members signed up that week, 102 of which were classed as being close to my location (New York Metropolitan area). The chat rooms were hardly bustling, there being just 3 chat rooms with less than 50 visitors.

There seem to be plenty of abandoned profiles on the site, which is a common hazard with free dating sites. What makes screening out obsolete profiles more difficult is that there's nothing on the profiles to inform you of the last login date. The best you can hope for is to screen out unused profiles by filtering out profiles without photos when you search. The profiles themselves are fairly detailed, and you can toggle between the full profile or the summary galley and preview profile views, which make browsing much more efficient. Should you want to see the full profile you just have to click on it. 

You can find profiles using a number of search options. Basic search finds profiles on the basis of age, location, distance and keyword. There's also a username search and an advanced search that extends the range of criteria from the basic search to incorporate more or less all the information listed on a profile, so it's quite detailed. If you're in a hurry you can also try the preconfigured searches (who's online, who's new, featured members, who's on IM, who I viewed/viewed me), which are often useful. In addition to getting in touch via email, you can chat in real time in the chat rooms (though they are almost empty), show interest in other members by clicking on the appropriate button on their profile.

An additional feature that's worth looking at is the 'Matches' feature. Basically, you get shown photos and basic info (name, city, looks, family) of members and decide whether you're interested in them by clicking 'yes', 'no' or 'maybe'. You can do this to your heart's content and you wind up with a list of matches in which you get to see who you like and who likes you. If you both like each other then this is classed as a mutual match, paving the way for lifelong happiness (hopefully).

Free members can create a profile, receive email, show interest and search profiles (limited). Free members also get to show interest and visit the chat rooms. Upgraded members get unlimited messaging, feature above free members in searches and post more photos. For the low fee of joining it's well worth it if you like the site and find potential contacts. Any problems, you can contact the site using the email support form or postal address if you're in no hurry.

Gay.Date.com offers some solid features including the fun and simple 'matches' feature. Plus, it's cheap to join and you should find other members like you who want something more than a quick fling. However, the membership base isn't the largest and you'd be right to question whether you should stay in this one-horse town or head somewhere a little bigger.
