Our Review:

GCruise.com is the place to hook up with gay guys for no-strings fun on the web. It's free to register and you can be up and running in just a couple of minutes as long as you have a valid email address. It's not the best looking site though, being a little plain and unexciting. The text is a little too small in an attempt to cram as much onto the page as possible, which makes for a rather cluttered feel. However, it does have the odd feature in its favor.

You'll find thousands of profiles on the site, though the exact number of members isn't disclosed. At the time of this review there were a couple of hundred members online, which is quite a small figure. The video chat rooms were also empty and there were plenty of incomplete profiles without photos. The profiles have space for a number of photos, and you can also upload introduction videos too. There are scant personal details and it was evident that not too much thought had gone into this part of the site. However, you can see when a member was last online, which helps screen out abandoned profiles. Because of the site's global membership base, your chances of meeting others in person are somewhat limited unless you like to travel.

Search tools offered a little more hope. You'll find 3 tabs on the homepage (basic/advanced/perfect matches). Basic search allows you to search by location, distance (radius) age, as well as filter out profiles lacking photos/videos. You can also search based on what other members are looking for, although, as mentioned, it's typically superficial physical encounters (hence the sexual preferences criteria). The advanced search (Silver and Gold only) allows you to search more or less everything in a member's profile (which isn't a huge amount really), the most useful perhaps being location and distance on the assumption that you're looking to meet in person. You can also find a username search. It's definitely worth completing the personality profile and getting your 'perfect matches' based on your compatibility with other members. When I tried it, I was matched with over 2000 members.

You can connect with other members in a variety of ways. If you want to chat real time, you can opt to video chat (20 public chat rooms, or host your own if you're a Gold member), which is a good way of having online fun (you'll need a webcam and an upgrade). However, the video chat rooms here are sparsely populated. You can also IM other members. There's also the usual email (again, you'll need to upgrade), as well as a 'flirt' function (a generic 'hi' to initiate contact). Furthermore, you can connect to others by rating and commenting on profiles and creating a favorites list, as the other member will be aware of when you do this. 

Free members get to create a profile, upload photos and videos, search profiles (basic only), receive email and flirt (3 only per day). If you upgrade to Silver you get unlimited flirting and email access, unlimited photo and video viewing, advanced search and more. Gold members get all of this plus faster server access, access to event news and competitions, feature at the top of search results and bonus unlimited xxx adult movie streaming. You also get to host your own video chat room. It's quite expensive to upgrade, but unless you're willing to do this there's no point in sticking with a very limited free membership. If you like the site, opt for Silver as it's slightly cheaper, and go for the cheaper (per month) 12 month option. Finally, you'll find a pretty good FAQs section and email support to help you should you require it.

GCruise.com is probably best for hooking up with guys online rather than meeting up, because it doesn't have the largest membership base and is global. Free membership offers very little and it's expensive to upgrade, although the search tools are better than on some other sites and you get plenty of additional features. A slightly below par hook up site.
