Our Review:

PlanetRomeo.com is a wild and whacky site that's packed with features and bursting with profiles. In fact, there's so much here that it can all be a little too much; each page is crammed with content and so it takes a little time to find your way around.

PlanetRomeo.com has a large membership base in comparison to many of the other sites in this category. At the time of this review there were 33, 327 members registered in the US alone, with many thousands more worldwide. In total, there were 67,256 online, but only 483 in the US, which is a little disappointing even though our review was conducted quite early in the morning. It's free to join and create a profile as long as you have a valid email address. main profile photos cannot be nude ones, but you will find xxx content classified by being either non-sexual, softcore or hardcore. You select which they are when you upload them. When they have been approved you can simply arrange them in folders. Profiles are quite detailed and you'll find plenty of locked content (e.g. xxx photos). It's possible to switch to the 'g-rated' version of the site, in which all sexual content is hidden. If you want to see members' private pictures you'll have to be nice to them and they might unlock them for you. Profiles are generally reasonably detailed and it's possible to add skins and change the profile format for a unique look, which is a nice touch. Profiles also give the last login activity, so you can easily tell if a profile's obsolete. Some profiles are also marked as 'known' meaning that another member has vouched for its authenticity, so you know a profile isn't fake. 

There are a number of searches to help you narrow down your options. The user search enable you to select profiles on the basis of age, location, body shape, ethnicity, hair color, eye color and more. It's also possible to click on the preconfigured searches to bring up the newest or most popular members. There are also separate searches to find member clubs or escorts who advertise on the site. Finally, you can also save searches to prevent the need to specify a long list of criteria again. There are also a number of ways to connect on the site. In addition to having the usual email feature, it's good that you can also send attachments with your messages, such as photos. If you want to chat in real time, unfortunately the chat rooms have been discontinued, which is a bit of a blow. However, you can contact a member using IM by clicking on the appropriate icon on their profile. You can also connect by joining a club; clubs are an online feature that enable people with the same interests to meet. You'll find plenty to choose from here, including sex/fetishes, leisure/sports, internet/computers, party, style and culture and politics and society. There were 28,759 club members at the time of this review. You can also connect to members by creating a favorites list and building a network of contacts. The Big Brother iPhone app lets you see who's been visiting your profile and the mobile function is a free app that lets you search for users, escorts and clubs, send and receive email and more. There are also classified ads to browse on the site, forums and relationship advice ('Ask Mother'), enough to keep most members occupied.

In addition to free membership and profile creation, free members are lucky enough to get unlimited messaging, 3 day message history, unlimited profile viewing, join 10 clubs, friends networking, a powerful user search and can upload up to 25 photos. So, why upgrade? PlanetRomeoPlus gives you all of the above and access to xxx content (including hot member photos), as well as 7-day message history, save up to 900 email messages, upload 185 photos, join 45 clubs, get tracklists and the site's ad-free. It's quite good value, especially if you sign up for longer. The cheapest way to upgrade is to join for a year on a recurring membership (saving 46%), which you can always cancel later if you don't want to renew. However, the site does give a lot to free members, so you'd probably be more than happy with a standard membership too. There's a reliable FAQs section with lots of info and technical advice. If you're still flummoxed, there's live support (10 online at the time of this review) and an email support form.

PlanetRomeo.com is well thought out and gives you loads for free and even more for a modest subscription fee. The modest online presence and lack of the odd feature such as chat rooms shouldn't put you off as there is plenty here to help you meet guys online and get chatting.
